Reconstruction of the Palamós WWTP
Storm Harry, which struck on 19 and 20 January 2026, caused severe damage to the sanitation system in the Baix Empordà region. Intense rainfall, reaching up to 223 mm in less than 48 hours in Palafrugell, led to the overflow of the Aubi stream and the complete flooding of the Palamós Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), with water levels reaching up to 1.9 metres.
The facility, which serves several municipalities in the area, became inoperative due to the loss of electricity supply. The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) has allocated up to €3.6 million for its reconstruction, with full recovery expected by the end of June 2026.
